2026 Bulgaria and Romania Schengen Visa: Rules Changed, Borders Lifted!
Bulgaria and Romania became full Schengen members in 2026! Are land border controls lifted? Everything you need to know about visa fees and new travel rules in this guide.

The expected revolution in European travel happened in 2026! After years of negotiations, Bulgaria and Romania officially joined the Schengen Area with their land borders as of January 1, 2026. So, what does this historic change mean for Turkish travelers and visa applicants?
Now All of Europe with a Single Visa!
The restrictions that used to exist when traveling to other European countries with Bulgarian or Romanian visas are now history. A visa you obtain from Sofia or Bucharest consulates is now a full Schengen visa. With this visa, you can travel to 29 Schengen countries from Germany to Italy, from France to Spain without any additional procedures.
Especially for those exiting through Kapikule and Hamzabeyli border gates, Bulgaria is now Europe's official gateway.
2026 Visa Fees and Costs
With the integration, visa fees have also been standardized. According to the 2026 current tariff:
Adults: €90
Children 6-12 Years: €45
0-6 Years: Free
In addition to these amounts, service fees from application centers (VFS Global, iData, etc.) (average €20-30) and shipping costs may be added.
Warning: Don't "Visa Shop"!
The lifting of borders doesn't mean the rules have relaxed. According to Schengen rules, you must apply for your visa from the country where you will stay the longest or make your first entry.
Getting a visa from Bulgaria and flying directly to Germany without visiting can result in rejection at the border and cancellation of your visa.
